Project BrainCyclus

Project type

VR Research Application

Role

Project Management, Design, Programming, Customer Support

I played a key role in the BrainCyclus project - a research application aimed at advancing our understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Specifically, I was responsible for conceiving, programming, and designing the VR component of the application, which allowed neuroscientists at HHU to explore brain activity in a highly immersive and interactive environment.
In addition to my programming and design work, I also participated in setting up the project on site, working closely with clients to understand their needs and requirements, and overseeing the implementation of hardware and technical components. I also took on a significant amount of project management responsibility, liaising with clients to ensure that the project was delivered on time and to their satisfaction.
The VR scenarios being developed for the BrainCycles project aim to investigate how robust the beta-band suppression and alleviation of freezing symptoms are during bicycling in comparison to walking. By manipulating the visual and auditory feedback presented to patients while they are cycling, the researchers hope to better understand the mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of bicycling and how these can be optimized.
My contributions to the BrainCyclus project demonstrate my ability to conceive and implement complex VR applications, as well as my project management skills and ability to work effectively with clients and stakeholders. The use of VR in Project BrainCycles offers a powerful tool for investigating the underlying mechanisms of PD and developing new therapies for patients suffering from this debilitating disease
